It’s been a few days. I’ve been up to my eyeballs in this:
…40-60 pages of handwritten notes documenting my 96 year old grandmother’s life.
And sorting and scanning and touching up these:
…an assortment of photos from her very full life.
It’s a huge job and a hugely rewarding job. And a job with a deadline of Saturday, when I will send her life book off to print for the cousins to receive on Christmas Eve. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and I’m so happy I’m completing it now so that I can call up Tutu and ask, “Who’s that in the photo with you at the beach?” or “What was the name of the place you lived first in your fifth wheel?” or my favorite, “Tell me again the story of the day you found the rattlesnake in the kindergarten yard.”
So there’s work yet to be done, but I’ve made a lot of headway. And this, my favorite photo, is my reward.
