About Me

Welcome to my blog, where I share my thoughts about what’s inspiring me. I’m a suburban Southern California woman who is trying to balance modern information, insights, lifestyles and technologies with the slower, more wholesome ways of the past without going completely crazy. My purpose in life is to glorify the God of all in heaven.

I’m the wife of one, the mom of five (or eight), a reader, quilter, crafter, artist, and cook. I’m slowly learning how to nudge my family into the ways that I hope will be more wholesome for us all, body, mind and spirit.

I’m a foster mom with two biological sons, an almost adopted son and daughter living in my house, plus four more kiddos living in my heart. I’m not cut out to be permanent fostering material, and I’d love to just adopt a dozen kids and get it all over with. Waiting for hubby to agree…it could be a while, or forever.

I love coffee and taking photos and fabric and foggy mornings on the beach. I hate putting away laundry and junk mail and whining. If I ever had a whole day to myself, I’d start with coffee and a good book, sew and scrapbook for a while, spend some time outside taking photographs, and eat fresh fruits and vegetables presented in a beautiful way on my plate. Until that free day appears, you’ll find me at home, caring for our house and nurturing my kids so that they can ‘have a happy childhood tucked into their belts.’

Right now my hair is red, my face is freckled, and my body is tired. Today my house is clean, my pants are a bit tight, and my bedroom walls are freshly painted. Check back tomorrow and all of that might change…well, except the freckles. (edited to add: see, I told you things change quickly! I’m a blonde again these days!)

  1. God love ya girl! I stumbled across your blog today and had a great time getting to know ya. God has blessed you with a beautiful family. My daughter has two girls instead of the boys like yourself. She does have a blog http://ascrappyblog.blogspot.com/ take a look see. I’m in the blue ridge mtns and yes we do have those 4 seasons. Today the sky is a beautiful deep color of blue with just a few wispy clouds. Sunny put just alittle cold. Just tooooo windy today to do much outside and I’m holding up in the cabin by the wood heater. Doing alittle sewing and play on the puter.

  3. Hi! Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog, but I wanted to let you know that I am blogging at a different address now. If you wish to visit me there, the address is brooke-gratitude.blogspot.com . I have only taken the briefest of glances at your blog, but I can tell we have lots in common. And altho I am residing overseas at the present moment, I came here via Southern California. Take care and I hope to see you at my current blog!

  4. Wonderful blog! I came across your blog through sewcrazed.blogspot.com, she featured a pair of earrings in my Etsy shop on her blog last week and I have been exploring her blog ever since.I love your food for thought and daily bread and like you, I am still in the process of minimizing the things in my life, I think it’s so important and essential to the peace and happiness we so crave. I wish you well on this journey…..I’ll look forward to reading your blogs.

    • I found some albums at Target for the storage of the photos until I scrap them, then once scrapped they go into American Crafts Modern Black albums. I haven’t done much scrapping this year though!

  5. What a beautiful family. Love your blog and photos. Tell me, how did you do your header on your blog? What program did you use? I’d like to try something like that.

  6. You have a charming space here :o) Glad I stumbled upon it (on Elizabeth’s bitsofsunshine, which was recommended by Geertrude at faithoftheheart). I love finding new blogs! Best wishes as you seek to enjoy the Now in the shadow of What’s to Be.

  7. Beautiful blog, beautiful family, beautiful you! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog this evening, looking forward to visiting again. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas!

  8. Hi there! I found your blog via Rage Against the Minivan. Thank you SOOO much for sharing the resources for alternatives to Halloween candy that’s fair trade. You look really familiar, did you happen to go to PLNU?

  9. I am so glad to have found your site via Instant Mama and am looking forward to reading more. I am an adoptive mom of three amazing kids all of whom came to us through the foster care system. Our journey was painful but so richly blessed. I have just started blogging and am loving the connections I have made and the hearts I see for foster care and adoption. It is a hard road but God is with us every step and brings us so much closer to Him than we would have been without the journey. Bless your heart and your ability to see His grace in all circumstances. Thank you for sharing your story.

  10. I love your line about how you don’t feel cut out to be permanent fostering material… I feel exactly the same way! (especially right now, after another goodbye)… I don’t know if I could ever care for a foster child and not secretly long for them to be my forever child as well.
